The North Carolina Central University Alumni Association Roger R. Gregory Golf Scholarship Tournament began in 1996. It has continued to honor the legacy of Roger R. Gregory and to raise funds for current students at North Carolina Central University. The tournament serves as a one of the main source of funds for the Association’s scholarship awards.His LegacyRoger R. Gregory was a proud alumnus of North Carolina Central University (Class of 1971), a dedicated leader, and a passionate advocate for education and community service. With a career spanning over two decades in human resources, he returned to Durham, North Carolina in 1989 to serve as the Director of Human Services at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. He was later appointed as the Director of Alumni Affairs at NCCU in 1999 and made an everlasting mark on the university and its alumni network.After serving as the President for New York, New Jersey and Durham Chapters, he proudly served as the two-time National President of the NCCU Alumni Association, making him the youngest President in alumni association history. Roger was a lifelong supporter of the university, earning honors such as Alumnus of the Year in both 1982 and 1992. In addition to holding several leadership roles within the alumni chapters, he was also a staple with several community organizations across New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina.Roger was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served at the local, state, and regional levels, mentoring students and leading initiatives with passion and purpose. His legacy of service, leadership, and unwavering Eagle Pride continues to inspire generations of NCCU alumni and supporters.Today, the Roger R. Gregory Golf Scholarship Tournament is held in his honor as part of NCCU's National Alumni Association’s fundraising efforts during Homecoming celebration, supporting student scholarships, and continuing the mission he championed so fiercely.
