Join us for
a day of celebration, golf, and honoring what A.R. “Pete” Giesen Jr. spent so
many years working toward, Better Mental Health for All. In what would have
been the 25th annual Pete Giesen Jr. MHA-A Golf Tournament, we will
gather on Monday, June 6th for the 1st A.R. “Pete” Giesen
Jr. MHA-A Memorial Golf Tournament.
In 1963, Pete would win a seat in
the Virginia House and launch his political career. Pete became and remained a dignified,
graceful, and honest force of Virginia state politics for over three decades: a
force for mental health, a force for racial equality, and a force for all
citizens of his beloved Virginia.
Pete was a dear friend of Mental Health America of Augusta and was a staunch
advocate for mental health all across the commonwealth.
After
retiring from politics, well, he never really retired from politics, Pete
continued on various boards and made attempts at trying to be a golfer. Even
starting the "Pete Giesen Mental Health Golf Tournament" which
provided scholarships for students majoring in mental health occupations at
Blue Ridge Community College.
Mental Health America of Augusta is
honored to continue on the tradition that Pete started so you can be sure there
will be a lot of laughs, GAG Gifts, prizes, and more.
