MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society is the statewide professional association for licensed physicians, and we are dedicated to our mission to serve as Maryland's foremost advocate and resource for physicians, patients, and public health. On the first Monday in June1799, the founding physicians met for the first time at The State House in Annapolis, Maryland. For 225 years, MedChi’s members have made notable contributions to promote the health of citizens and we stand today among the oldest medical associations in the United States. MedChi’s members have worked together to find solutions to the challenges of healthcare. The Center for a Healthy Maryland, The Maryland State Medical Society’s Foundation, was established in 1976 asa 501(c)(3) corporation to support the charitable, educational and scientific purposes and functions of MedChi. These include education, quality improvement, health promotion, community outreach, preservation of MedChi history, and public health. The Center’s mission is to educate and advance the practice of medicine, enhance the quality of medical care, promote the health of the citizens of the State of Maryland, and explore and preserve the history of Maryland medicine and MedChi’s archives. The Center supports a range of educational and charitable programs and activities throughout the year including the Maryland Maternal Mortality Review, the Maryland Physician Health Program, the Maryland Physician Leadership Institute, and the annual Thomas E.
