Annie Story: 

Our mother’s, Annie, story begins when she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in February 2020. Unfortunately, in September 2021, Annie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a side effect of her breast cancer treatment. In the fall of 2022, Annie started showing signs of Graft vs. Host (GVHD), which is the host body’s rejection of the stem cell transplant she received in December 2021. Our sweet mother left us on March 18th, 2023, due to complications from GVHD. 

The Why: 

We are choosing to donate the money generated from the second annual “Annie’s Open” back to the Simon Cancer Center. Without the generous and loving staff, the around the clock care, and treatment provided by the Simon Cancer Center, our family might not have had as much time with our mother. She developed multiple loving relationships with the staff at SCC, even during the darkest times of her life.  This donation will go onto families like ours that have to endure the long battle against cancer. We know our mother had much respect for SCC taking such good care of her. She would be proud of what we are trying to do and appreciate your support for IU Health.
